Happy Birthday to Matthew!

It all started late Sunday night, when Rachel came running into my room, then ran out into the bathroom and spent the rest of the night in there. We then awoke to Nathan covered in his vomit. Next was Steve, then me. Monday is a haze, and I'm not quite sure how Shaun dodged the bullet, or who fed him that night. Monday night I threw up, and then went to bed. At about 1:30 Tuesday morning, I was rudely awaken by a very uncomfortable pain in my abdomen, that soon went away. I started to fade back to sleep, when I happened again. I was annoyed but now fully awake. I started timing these lovely pains, and realized that they were coming every 2.5 minutes. I shook Steve awake, and told him it was time. He was not impressed with my ability to make things happen at inconvenient times, but eventually realized that I was totally serious. We frantically decided to call our friend Amanda, and head over to the hospital
When we got there, they took one look at the pain on my face, and the "obscenely pregnant" state of my belly, that they took us right in and determined that I was, in fact, in labor. They wheeled me to a room where I begged to get as much medication as they could throw at me. The anesthesiologist came in, our friend from our ward, Joel Gardner, and I couldn't have been more grateful. He hooked me up, and I was finally comfortable again. We tried to figure out how to name him after Joel, but Matthew Joseph Joel Weber was a bit over the top. I then sat and looked around the room, watched Steve sleep, did a little sudoku, and stared blankly at the wall for a couple of hours.
Then they came in and determined that I was fully dialated, and they broke my water and told me to wait. I soon started feeling the need to push, but when the resident came in, she asked if I could wait, because someone else seemed like she needed to push even more. Whatever, lady. Has that girl had 3 other children? How fast can she push, because I bet that I can do it faster. Well, after 10 mins, I really needed to push, and so the nurse frantically paged the doc, and she came running in, told me to push, and in 2 contractions Matthew Joseph Weber was born. He was 7 lbs 12 oz and 19.5 ins long. He was considered preterm, as he was 36 weeks and 2 days along, so he spent much of his first day in the NICU.
I spent most of the day trying to recover, and Steve spent the day running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He had to go get the kids from Amanda, get Shaun ready and off to school, tidy up, get Rachel ready and off to school, take Shaun to a Dr appt, get my mom from the airport, get Rachel from the bus, get dinner, come visit us at the hospital, and take everyone back home and put everyone to bed. I don't know who had a more exhausting 24 hours, me or him.
Matthew is so beautiful, but is very jaundice, so has had to spend a lot of time in and out of the doctors and getting poked. He is so wonderful and sweet. Shaun and Rachel like him, and Nathan can't stand the little man who has come and taken over his spot as baby.

Wow! I'm tired after reading your story! I'm glad you made it to the hospital, you got your epidural and that Matthew is doing well despite being so early. I love the picture of you kissing his head and I also hate you because your legs look amazing! Love you!

Congrats, Katie! I cannot believe your 7+ lb baby is pre-term. Yowza!
We recently saw the robot guy on an NFL football game and were just talking about you--"I wonder if she's had her baby yet, I said."
Hooray for keeping in touch via blog. Miss you guys!

Oh, KT I'm so excited for you. He's so beautiful, and the pic of you kissing him is amazing. I'll leave out the smiling comment I was going to make about your sexy legs, and how you were just trying to show them to us =) (You're trying to make Hospital Gown look chic!) That would detract from the moment. =) Love you Love you!
