Snow?

I got up this morning to the kids excitedly yelling about all the snow on the ground. We probably got an inch or two, so I went on with my morning as usual. I got Shaun all ready and drove him to the bus stop, to realize we had probably missed it. So I continued on to the school, which is about 2 miles away. I wish I had a picture of myself to show you how lovely I looked on the short drive over, complete with bathrobe, bedhead and Steve's snow boots. We got all the way over there to find no cars in the parking lot and no buses. I searched through Shaun's backpack to see if there was a note saying they would be delayed today, or if it was a holiday or it had been taken over by terrorists or something. Then I thought I was probably going crazy and took him an hour early to school. We ended up driving back home, much to his dismay, to investigate further.

Well come to find out, when it snows here they cancel school. Thanks for the notice, jerks. Someone could have told the new girl that if ever there is a flake falling from the sky, they shut down the education system. What is this teaching our children, anyway? To run and hind from a little adversity? I guess, if nothing else, I gave the drivers around me something to laugh about, and stare at while sitting at red lights. That's my gift to them. Merry Christmas Toledo.

That is too funny! Those whips!

I have made the same mistake! Pay attention when they delay school because it gives them a two hour window to cancel! I think they delay it because Springfield has a lot of rural roads that are not first priority to plow. Did you notice Toledo didn't even get a delay?

I listen to the radio in the morning and on the days it snows the d.j.s spend most of their time listing off the schools that have delays. I should have thought to give you a call. Instead, I flipped off the radio, annoyed because the information is so irrelevant to me.
I am STILL not used to how Ohioans handle snow....

Oh yes, the delays and cancellations! Gotta love Ohio. I agree with Kenna you do have to be glued to the tv all winter and expect to have your kids home alot! I learned the hard way to make sure I check outside AND the tv BEFORE I drag the kids out of bed in the winter!

My grumble is that when there is a Level 3 emergency, and it's illegal to be on the roads, I'm still required to drive the 20 miles, risking safety and a ticket, to be at work. We had a bad storm right after one of the holidays a couple of years ago, those who didn't make it in were docked their holiday pay as well. Sorry - I felt left out of the school closing conversation ;-)
